Devotional Reading: 2 Corinthians 6:1-18

Yesterday, we looked at how to pursue Christian Character, by the grace of God, today we shall look at the attributes of Christian Character. Apostle Peter outlined those attributes for us very clearly in one of his book which is contained in our memorize of today.

The first attribute is Faith. Personally, I refer faith to be the German floor of a building, i.e, “Spiritual”. What is faith? Faith is the trust, assurance and the confidence we have in God. Faith is believing and trusting God even when all else is failing and we cannot see Him. Hebrews 11:6; “But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is the rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

The second attribute is virtue. Virtue is a behaviour showing high moral standard, it is the moral excellence of a person, virtues are the essence of our character and when we keep the practice of virtues at the heart of everyday life; we live with purpose. Philippians 4:8; “Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just; whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

The third is knowledge – We need the knowledge in the word of God to live a victorious Christian life. In Matthew 4:1-11; Jesus overcame Satan’s temptation using the word of God, He answered – It is written! 2 Timothy 2:15; – Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Hosea 4:6; “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thy hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

The fourth is temperance – Temperance is moderation or voluntary self – restraint. It also means abstinence from alcohol and controlling your food, don’t eat too much, everything in moderation. 1 Corinthians 9:27; “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection; lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a cast away.

Prayer point: Jehovah Eloim, please help me live true to my confession and profession as a Christian in Jesus name.

Key Dose: Remember, you are the example that the world looks to.
