CAST AWAY EVERY WEIGHT

Memorize: No Man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier; 2 Timothy 2:4.

Devotional Reading: 2 Timothy 2: 1-19

One of the Christian films that has been of great blessing to me and many other people all over the world is “Journey to Heaven” or (simply put, “Pilgrim’s Progress”) written by John Bunyan. This film was an allegory of the life of a believer on a journey from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City. One of the key character’s in the film was “Christian”, there was a weight he was carrying from the city of destruction that wouldn’t allow him into the Celestial City. It would also hinder him from making progress in his journey. Until he offloaded that weight which was a burden on him, he had no chance of making it.

Many Christians today are still carrying unnecessary weights around them, like ‘Christian’, they are also in the race to the Celestial City. It is the desire of God to give us His kingdom. Jesus confirmed this in Luke 12:32; Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good please to give you the kingdom. But not with weight and entanglement, you must lay aside every weight according to the book of Hebrews 12:1; Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.

There are many things in the lives of believers today which has been trivialised as ‘small things’, some would say “It does not matter”, others would say “God understands”. Any form of sin matters, whether big or small, the bible says in 1 John 5:17; that all unrighteousness is sin. God would not understand as some think, you must lay aside every weight and untangle yourself from all unrighteousness.

Many believers today are tangled with worldliness, little lies as they would say, pride, immorality, dishonesty, …
You may have justification for your action; But God would not justify a sinner; the destination for a sinner is not pleasant and cannot be endured, so you must off load every weight and run the race with patience.

In recent times, some believers are pushed into committing “littles sins” as they call it because of hardships and their difficult circumstances, some of these believers go through so much; However, God can supply the grace needed to bear it because there is no justification for sin regardless.

We need to learn endurance, if we want to walk with God. My mum of blessed memory, when people came to her with their challenges and difficult situations she would always encourage them that if they believe in God and are ready to be patient, what is not sufficient today will surely become more than enough tomorrow. I believe it because it happened in the life of my family and I have listened to testimonies from some other believers who have had similar experiences.

The Christian life is a marathon, not a sprint. And the only way you will be able to run with endurance is to do what the verse today says…to off load the sin in your life that weighs you down.

Are you struggling today in your Christian walk?

If so, take an honest look at your life and see if there is any sin that is un-confessed. If there is, confess it and cast it aside.

When you do that, you will find you will once again be able to run…and do so with endurance.

May the LORD give you the grace to cast away every sin and weights of unrighteousness in Jesus name.

I pray for you today, that God will turn around your captivity and give you an experience of miracle like a dream; God will bring to speedy manifestation, every delayed dream or promises in your life so that your mouth will be filled with laughter and your tongue with singing in the mighty name of Jesus.

Prayers point : O LORD, please free me from every weight that has held me down in Jesus name.

Key Dose: There is grace for everyone to be free from all weights if you ask from God and believe you can be free.
