Memorize: But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy father which is in secret; and thy father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. Matthew 6;6.
Devotional Reading: Matthew 6:1-15
Life is generally about relationships and building networks. Families working together, employee’s working as a team, church fellowship amongst brethren, community relationships, e.t.c. It is often said that “no man is an island”, it is also said that “a tree does not make a forest”. These quotes reiterate the fact that relationships are essential in life.
As important as these relationships are, believers need to find time to commune with God. The Christian life is more than just “Jesus and me”, but it is not less. Many individualistic modern day Christians still need to be awakened to the deep rewards of studying and living the scripture. In our push for community in the Christian life, it is equally essential to remember that the Christian life is not only communal. “There is need to spend quality time alone with God,” it is as important as its ever been – especially in our current age of distractions on social media, comical gatherings, going to party and clubbing.
Jonathan Edwards expresses, and Scripture exemplifies, in one of his quotes, he said –
“one aspect of a Christ-enamored heart is a gnawing ache to get alone with God”.
Jonathan Edwards
It is in the times we commune alone with God that we recieve divine directions, greater revelations, we are able to get deep with God, where secrets are unveiled and prophesies released. The soft and gentle voice of God is heard in a place of stillness, many people have missed their heaven arranged opportunities and divine season of breakthroughs because they missed the voice of God. Some people have a mindset and belief that God cannot speak to them. I wish to let you know that God still speak today. You will only hear him when you are attentive and commune with him. The Closer you are to God the nearer He comes to you.
May the Lord help you to make God your priority and spend quality time to commune with Him.
Prayer point: My LORD and my God, please help me commune with you without distractions in Jesus name.
Key Dose: You will always make time for what is important to you, so make God your number one priority.
