Devotional Reading: Luke 15: 11-32
Addiction is an illness, just like heart disease or cancer. Addiction is not simply a weakness. It can affect people from all backgrounds, poor/rich, educated/illiterate, anyone can become an addict. Many young people today all over the world are under the influence of different types of drugs, even ministers’ children are secretly involved in taking it. Addiction is of the devil, it’s purpose is to cut short someone’s life and hinder fulfilment of destiny.
Some people with severe addiction, consider the need of taking drugs more important than the need to have their meals. Addiction has replace the pleasures of living a decent life for many.
Some people suffering from addiction can do almost anything such as lying, stealing, prostitution etc to keep up with addicted urge and desires. Addiction has the capacity to change human brain mechanisms, which can affect a person’s behaviour such as ; mood swings, memory loss, or even having trouble thinking and making logical decisions. Addiction can also lead to mental disorder.
Addiction of any form can cause a journey of 5 years to to become 20 years. A brother left his parent house at 16 and got into drugs, he went into many bad things, he said sometimes he felt like quitting but he just couldn’t help himself, despite all kinds of preaching he has heard and countless number of tracts he has been given, he still couldn’t help himself. He said that sometimes if he doesn’t take it, he will not be able to sleep or even eat anything, but one day while he was preparing to take the drug, he heard a voice “If you don’t stop this habit you will die” he said he ignored the voice and took the drug, immediately he felt something like a wave in his room and what he saw next was blood gushing out of his nose. He was unconcious before someone came in and rushed him to the hospital, he said that was the day he surrendered his life to Christ, because he was close to death. Today he is a Pastor.
God has put this message in my heart because of someone reading this message, and the message is “You can be free from that addiction”, whatever it is. don’t let your case get to the point of death, your destiny is beautiful and the devil is aware of it. Some people didn’t survive that incident that happened to that brother. I know you are tired of it and here Jesus is saying in Matthew.11:28 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” you can be free now from drug, pornography, smoking or sex addiction if you are willing and ready to give it up, say enough is enough to addiction.
If you are ready then say this prayer, My Father and my God, I know I have strayed away from your presence, I have got myself entangled with the affairs of this world, but this day I repent of all my sins, wash me with your precious blood, please write my name in the book of life, give me the grace not to visit my sin again. Thank you Jesus for accepting me and for making me free, in Jesus name I pray, Amen. If you said that prayer I congratulate you because you are now a free man. I will keep praying for you and ask God to help you grow in faith. May the Lord uphold you and establish you in His freedom in Jesus name. Amen
Prayer point: Father, I thank you because I am free from any form of addiction in my life in Jesus name.
