Memorize: Behold the fowls of the air; for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Matthew 6: 26
Devotional Reading: Matthew 6: 25 – 34
One of the most common reasons why many people worry in our world today, is the thought of tomorrow. Many struggle with it to the extent that some developed anxiety, panic attack, restlessness; sleepless nights, e.t c, yet, their worries provided no solution, rather, it complicated the situation. This was what Jesus said in vs 27; Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
I pray for you that whatever is causing you to worry, the almighty God will remove from your life today in Jesus name.
I remembered studying and reading about Mungo Park many years ago in school, he was a 25 years old Scottish doctor who was traveling alone in “a vast wilderness” in western Africa. He encountered serious challenge and was ready to give up.
His original goal had been to find the mysterious city of Timbuktu. He failed to find this city, but his journey brought him deep into Africa’s forbidding interior.
In August 1796, in this hostile environment, he was robbed by bandits. Although eventually freed, his situation still seemed hopeless. As he later described, he looked around “with amazement and terror.” He was “500 miles from the nearest European settlement.” He felt that he “had no alternative, but to lie down, give up on life and perish.”
At this desperate time, his thoughts turned toward prayer. He suddenly focused on a tiny piece of flowering moss. As he later wrote, he “could not contemplate the delicate conformation of its roots, leaves, and capsula, without admiration.” He realised that God cared for this plant even in “this obscure part of the world.” That if He “planted, watered, and brought to perfection” this small plant, Park thought he certainly could trust God with his own life. He summed up courage, drew strength from knowing that if God care for a plant, then he will care for him; knowing that his life is worth more than the plant. Park renewed his journey and soon reached civilisation.
Park experienced the kind of trust Jesus spoke about when He taught His disciples why they needed to trust God for everything, never worry, instead, they realise that He is a loving father who cares for them.
Whatever situation you may be going through today, don’t give up, renew your determination to trust God; hold on, you have a loving father who cares for you, if He cares for the lilies of the field and fowls of the air, know that you are much better than they. May the LORD help you to trust Him with confidence, knowing that your tomorrow will be greater than your yesterday and your today put together in Jesus name.
Prayer point: O LORD; help me appreciate your love for me and know that you care for me.
Key Dose: Thoughts about tomorrow will bring worries and confusion, but trust in God gives peace.
