Memorize : For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Ephesians 2:8
Devotional Reading: Genesis 32:21-32
The subject of grace is one of the most difficult gifts from God to understand, it is a function of love. Without it, our lives have no meaning. Grace is unmerited favour produced by “unconditional love of God” First, what is the meaning of “unmerited.” It means you do not qualify for it, nor have you done anything to deserve it.
So, what is it that you receive that is unmerited? According to the definition of grace, you receive God’s love, which commands his “favour” which you do not deserve or work for but is given to you. Jesus is the greatest love of God to the world, and we are still in the season of celebrating His birth. The marvellous grace of God came through the birth of Christ There is a common saying that “everything good has a price” Yes, this is true with man, but with God, there is no price for grace, it is free, given to the world as an act of great love.
Grace then is getting something nice instead of the bad things you deserve. When you receive grace you are given a precious gift. So how does God show us grace? God shows grace to us through His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ – John 3:16. When He was on the cross, Jesus took all the punishment that we deserved and placed it on Himself. The just, for the unjust. On the cross, Jesus gave us the privilege of having a relationship with God, something that we cannot earn by ourselves nor do we deserve. God loves His children so much that He shows them unmerited favour and unconditional love instead of the punishment that we deserve for disobeying Him.
The grace of God is the most beautiful yet powerful thing we will ever encounter in life, but it is also the most difficult concept for us to wrap our minds around. Grace pushes back against our understanding of what is fair and what people deserve. But the message of grace is one that the entire world needs to hear and understand especially in a season like this. Grace is love that seeks you out when you have nothing to give in return, what can we give to God for the salvation of our souls? Salvation is priceless.
Grace is love coming at you in spite of your shortcomings and imperfections. Grace is being loved when you hate and are unlovable…. Grace is God reaching downwards to a people who are constantly pushing back against Him, who are in rebellion against Him. Scripture tells us that all have sin, and the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life Romans. 6:23. But in His loving-kindness and mercy, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us and take upon himself the punishment that we deserve. Romans 4:24-25 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe in Him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead. Who was delievered for our offences and was raised again for our justification.”
Paul writes in Romans 5:8, “God commendeth His love towards us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” We are saved by the marvellous grace of God, it did not come at a time when we had everything together, all of our ducks lined up in a row. No, grace comes to us when we are broken, empty and can offer nothing in return. “Grace is most needed and best understood in the midst of sin, suffering, and brokenness.” We come to God with nothing in our hands to offer but our brokenness and sin, and He gladly takes it and gives to us new life and made us son’s and daughter’s, what a glorious experience!
All other gifts and blessings of God that we receive are products of the marvellous grace of God, Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:10; “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and the grace of God that was bestowed upon me was not in vain”.
I pray that the marvellous grace of God will work salvation and deliverance in your life today in Jesus name.
