HONOUR THROUGH OBEDIENCE

Memory Verse: Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams; 1 Samuel 15:22.

Devotional Reading: Isaiah 1:1-20

God gave Isaiah a vision concerning the rebellious nation of Judah and Jerusalem, and I believe this is for us too – Isaiah 1:19&20; If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. God has blessed “OBEDIENCE” and cursed “DISOBEDIENCE”, may the Lord give us hearts of implicit obedience in Jesus name.

Yesterday I told us that an act of disobedience today can cause a roadblocks tomorrow.

I was raised in a Christian home, God gave me Godly parents, my mum was especially remarkable in her relationship with God. She would spend hours on her knees everyday praying for her husband, children, church, neighbours, and the nation. Her relationship with God was very intimate; I can describe her as Enoch of her time who walked with God. We, her children, and many close to her all saw it. As a result of this, I developed strong love for her. I also had great respect and fear for her, so much so, that I could not disobey her. I cannot recall a time I ever disobeyed my mum, my heart will have no peace if I ever did, such was the great honour and respect I had for my mum.

God expects from us the same level and even more of such love, honour and respect. He has done far more than any parent in this world could ever do. He gave his only beggoten son and allowed him die for us, “the just for the unjust” his love is unquantifiable, his mercy is immeasurable, he is compassionate and kind, far better than my mum who I loved and adored so much. Why would anyone disobey such a loving God?

Disobedience brings pain to the heart of God and destruction to the one who commits the act of dissobedience against Him.

As a parent and pastor, I know how I feel if any of my spiritual or earthly children disobey me, it is not a good feeling, there is a type of pain and discomfort that it brings. You must pray that God will give you the heart of obedience so that you and your family can enjoy the blessings of obedience which the Lord has promised. They are huge and innumerable, see Deuteronomy 28:1-14.

May the Lord give you heart of obedience so that you can eat the good of the land in Jesus name.

Prayer point: O LORD, please help me honour you with my act of obedience.

Key Dose: Obedience is an act of honour which attracts favour from God and man.
