Memorize: Better a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.” Proverbs 17:1
Devotional Reading: Prov. 17:1-12,
I have good memory of my childhood into adulthood days, my family home was a peaceful, loving and enjoyable place. My dad and all of us children always look forward with excitement to coming straight home after work and schools. As soon as my dad gets home, he exclaims wih joy, “Home Sweet Home’ My mum worked extreemly hard with prayers to make our home the best place on earth. There was unity, love, joy and peace in our home.
But I once heard someone joke that home is the place where family members go when they are tired of being nice to other people. Unfortunately, some homes actually seem to work that way. A marketer who spends his day treating his clients with kindness in order to build his business, but he is rude to his wife when he comes home. A doctor who spends the day being caring and compassionate with his/her patients, but comes home exhausted and blows up at his/her children.
We can’t afford to let the devil build strong holds in our homes. Every prospering nation starts from a good home. Most successful churches inherit their successes from good homes. Your home must be a place where your heart longs, a place you find comfort at all times and not discomfort, both the father, mother and the children have roles to play to make it a haven of peace. If there’s no peace at home regardless of the wealth, such an atmosphere will produce resentment and long resentment can lead to separation and can eventually break that home.
Better a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.” Proverbs 17:1
in a case where the man is a generous man at work but cruel at home or the woman is loveable at the office, but at home she is a naging woman. The desire of God for our homes is to be a haven, not a hot oven. Some husband’s begin to panic severely when it is time to go home, some wives are scared of their husbands at home. I am praying for every home going through storm, I speak peace over that home in the mighty name of Jesus.
To build a strong family, you have to make your home a supportive environment. Psychologist William James said, “In every person from the cradle to the grave, there is a deep craving to be appreciated. Feeling appreciated brings out the best in people. And when that appreciation comes into the home, coupled with acceptance, love, and encouragement, the bonds between family members grow, and the home becomes sweet and a safe haven of peace for everyone.
Most of the time, the devil is not the problem, but we unconsciously invite him, and when he comes he makes things worse. You can make your home a Haven, it all begins with love, appreciation, thank you, I am sorry, I love you, please, tolerance, patience, adaptatability etc.
I pray for every individual and family’s using this Devotional that your home will be a Haven of joy and peace on earth in Jesus name, your children will give you peace in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen
Prayer point: O God of peace, come and be established in my life and home in Jesus name.
Key Dose: Great and mighty nations starts from great and successful homes.
