Memorize : “‘And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.’” Genesis 11:4.
Devotional Reading: Genesis 11:1-9
People gathered on the plain of Shinar (in what today is Iraq). They were proud of themselves, confident, and determined that others would honor them.
They seek to show off their accomplishments. So they unite and decided to build a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven, even against the will and desire of God.
It was to be a mighty piece of engineering. A marvel that could be seen for miles. A testament to their skills and abilities.
They feared that without this tower, they would be scattered throughout the earth, and vulnerable.
They would not get the notoriety, credit, or honor they felt they were due, this act was more or less an act of fighting with God, but no man can fight God, the LORD confused their languages, they could no longer understand each other, as a result the tower of babel project came to a halt and was eventually abandoned. We must learn a great lesson from this account in the bible.
Abraham stood out in contrast at that time. Unlike the people of Babel, Abraham was a man of faith.
He was willing to leave the comfort and stability of nearby Ur, and follow God no matter where He asked him to go.
He did not seek possessions or recognition like the people of Babel.
And God blessed him, because he treasured God and His direction over recognition by the world. Abraham walked by faith.
Today, the world is filled with Nations, Continent and people who are motivated by pride and personal desires. Some of them even think they a bigger than God. There is no man, institution, nation or Continent that is bigger that God. The almighty God is sovereign, He reigns and rule supreme over all.
What does He look for? “Him… who is humble and contrite in spirit, and who trembles at My word” Isaiah 66:2, and Not to depend on the Union or Nations for survival.
I wish to encourage you to have the right attitude. Build your faith in God and not towers for self recognition, seek His Kingdom first, pursue it will all your heart and might.
Humble yourself before God, trust Him and he will direct your path. In this month of overflowing blessings, I pray that the blessings of God will overflow into your life, marriage, family, employment, business, and ministry in Jesus name.
Prayers point : Father, please give me the Grace to build according to your will in Jesus name.
Key Dose: In all your pursuits, have a desire to please God and build according to His will.
