PRAY FOR YOUR JERUSALEM

Memorize: Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee; Psalm 122:6

Devotional Reading: Psalm 122:6

The attitude of critics usually is to condemn and undermine the work of their opponents or people around them, many have indulged themselves, while it has become a habit for some to always see the negatives and errors of our society and others around us, believers should take a different view by praying for our nations and our leaders. The bible instructs us to pray for the peace of our Jerusalem, this include our nations, churches, political and spiritual leaders. This is a command with prosperity attached to it if we obey, some have prospered immensely because they obeyed, while many others have failed because they refused the instructions of God.

If we pray for our nations, God will give us peace in our lands, if we pray for our leaders, God will give them the wisdom to make prudent decisions and Godly judgements. This was the heart cry of the psalmist in Psalm 72:1; Give the king thy judgements, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s son.

Solomon was considered the wisest of men. Yet when he became king, he also recognised how much he needed God. He recognised he couldn’t succeed without His blessings.

Writing this Psalm, Solomon asked God to help him make wise decisions to know what was right in His sight.

He knew that, like all political leaders, he needed godly wisdom and to have a heart, sensitive to the needs of his people. Particularly the poor and needy.

He prayed that peace and righteousness would be pervasive in the land, and that the righteous would flourish. He prayed that God would give him the discernment and boldness to succeed, and address the problems he would face.

He prayed for financial blessings, for himself and for people in his kingdom, he prayed for blessings on those who were involved in commerce. But, that there would also be prosperity and blessings among farmers and those who grow crops.

Psalm 72 presents a model for how we should approach the political and spiritual leaders of our land. We must never stop praying for them. We are to pray for their success, for God’s blessings, and for them to have His wisdom.

Ultimately, all of these blessings can only come when God receives all the praise.

When we all are committed to serve Him. When we, as a people, humble ourselves before Him and seek his face, to please Him, and know His will.
2 Chronicles 7:14; If my people who called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. The major problem with our nations and churches today is that most of us don’t pray for our nations and leaders, instead we criticise and complain, and those who pray, don’t pray enough. We need to pray prevailing prayer for them, if we do, we will see great changes in the administration of our nations and churches. God answers prayer, especially prayers offered according to his will.

Today, pray for the leaders of your city, state, and nation, pray for your church leaders, pray that they will have godly wisdom. That they would be concerned for justice and righteousness, and have compassion for the poor and needy.

That God will enable them seek the good of their nations and the people under them, and that they would recognise that all power, positions and blessings come from God. That they would honor God in their high positions and serve Him.

Let us pray for a move of God, that more people throughout the world will praise and worship Him, and bless His name.

Prayers point : Father, please give us peace in our nations and wisdom for our leaders in Jesus name.

Key Dose: Prayer offered from the heart in faith will propel God into action.
