RESIST THE SPIRIT OF FEAR

Memorize: For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love and of a sound mind; 2 Timothy 1:7

Devotional Reading: 2 Timothy 1:7

Fear is a major subject that has been preached in several sermons, taught in numerous Bible studies and discussed in a number of conferences and leadership training schools, yet, many people including some believers struggle to resist and be free from it. Fear is a form of imprisonment that holds its captives in a confined position, unable to make progress because they have been denied their freedom. Fear is a spirit; according to 1John 4:18; it has torment, but perfect love and trust in God, casteth out fear.

Fear is not just the tool of the enemy, it is one of the biggest tools of the enemy. Fear is the opposite of faith, as a result, the fearful, cannot please God, they cannot obey God and they cannot move the hands of God to work for them. Fear is an indirect statement which underrated the ability of God, implying that God is not equal to your problem or that God is not able to resolve the situation confronting you.

Fear is a hindrance to victory and miracle, fear can also be a killer of dreams and destroyer of destiny, it prevents those that cannot resist it from enjoying the victory and blessings of God. In the book of Numbers 13; As instructed by the LORD, Moses sent 12 people to spie the land of Canaan which God had already promised to give them,10 people brought evil report out of fear, only 2 people, Joshua and Caleb brought good report out of faith and confidence in God. The 10 spies that brought evil report out of fear died in the wilderness, they did not enter into the promised land. Only Joshua and Caleb made it through to the promised land out of the 12 spies.

Fear is contagious and can be terribly infectious, that is most likely the reason why God told Gideon in Judges 7:3; to send the fearful back to their homes when they were going to fight the Midianites so that they will not infest the rest of Gideon army with fear; vs 3; “Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from Mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand”.

More than two third of the original people were fearful and returned back from going to battle. God is not pleased when we are fearful, He is so much displeased with the fearful that, if they do not repent, He will allow them to end in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone where Satan, the dragon, false prophets and all unrepentant sinners will end up. Revelation 21:8; “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death”.

The matter is as serious as that. This is the reason why you must resit the spirit of fear. David in human assessment had every reason to be afraid of Goliath when the Philistines came to battle against Israel, but he resist the spirit of fear, he had faith in God, he embraced the spirit of Power, love for God and love for the people of Israel and a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7; “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”. God gave him victory over Goliath. I pray for you today, whatever battle you may be going through, the almighty and all powerful God will give you resounding victory in Jesus name, all you need to do, is resist the spirit of fear, have faith in God and believe His word, He will come through for you.

When the devil come to you with the spirit of fear, resist the devil, have faith in God, embrace the spirit of power, of love and a sound mind, you will discover that God will fight and win your battles for you as He fought and won for David and the nation of Israel against Goliath and the Philistines.

May the LORD help us to walk in the spirit of power and of love and of a sound mind so that we too can win our battles and enjoy resounding victories in Jesus name.

Prayer point: O Lion of Judah, please give me the spirit of Power, of Love and a sound mind so that I can triumph in all my battles in your holy name.

Key Dose: It is only the fearless that will enter into their Promised Land.
