SEEKING REAL FREEDOM!!!

Memorize: If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed, John 8:36.

Devotional Reading: Galatians 5:1-25

The quest for freedom has run through the ages. From the time when Moses was sent to free the children of Israel from the hand of Pharaoh, the then king of Egypt, till now.

Many singers and artists have sang songs of freedom to spread greater awareness of its need. Human rights activists; freedom fighters, civil rights organisations and several other groups have campaigned, playing large roles in seeking freedom for all.

We remember legendary freedom fighters such as Martin Luther King Jr; Nelson Mandela; Ai Weiwei; ,Nancy Cunard; Marlon Brando and James Baldwin. Some of the most striking amongst these legends are Martin Luther King Jr and Nelson Mandela.

King Jr fought very hard for equal rights of black people in America; we witnessed the positive effect of his struggle when on November 4, 2008, Barack Obama won the US presidential election and became the first black president in the history of America – The actualisation of the dream in which Martin Luther King Jr had. We can ask ourselves the question, did the election of a black President actually bring real freedom to black race in America? No, it did not.

Nelson Mandela fought vigorously even at the expense of his marriage; career; and his life to free his people and Country from apartheid. He spent 27 years in prison with hard labour. When he eventually became president of South Africa, there was great world wide celebration of Freedom for South Africa, however, in 2015; the same black people who Nelson Mandela fought to free with his life, commenced Xenophobic violent attack against fellow blacks. Several people were killed and mutilated in a gruesome and callous manner, beyond imagination or description.

This was a testament to the fact that the nation of South Africa was not truly under real Freedom. This now takes us to the question of ‘How can we gain REAL FREEDOM’? The answer is in John 8:36; If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. There is no freedom outside Christ; He is the answer and solution to all of life’s problems. Christ is the ONLY solution to our quest for FREEDOM, both here on earth and in eternity.

When you accept Christ, you will receive the real FREEDOM you need, after this, then stand in that FREEDOM as Paul advised the Galatian church in Galatians 5:1;
May the Lord help you to enjoy real freedom in Jesus name.

Prayer point: Father, set me free today in Jesus name.

Key dose: If others refuse to receive him into their lives, for the sake of your Freedom, accept Christ today.
