Memorize: But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble. Psalms 59:16
Devotional Reading: Psalms 59:1-16
Let me begin by asking you this question and I want you to be sincere with yourself, how do you start your day first thing in the morning? I am sure you have your answer with you?
I have come to realise that whatever engages your time first thing in the morning has the capacity of dictating the order of your day. We must pay particular attention to how we start our day. There are those who pick up their phones first thing in the morning, browse through Facebook or Instagram, some, it is the newspaper they turn to sport page, others turn to the financial page. You can’t make either of the above your priority first thing in the morning and have a fulfiled day.
Pastor but are you now saying I should not read newspapers or check social media in the morning? No…as a matter of fact all the above are things I do daily but they are not my priority first thing in the morning.
So Pastor what should be my first priority in the morning? Our first priority should be to seek God’s face in worship, read the word of God and pray. God is first in all and should be placed first in everything we do. Learn to start your day with God, say good morning to Him, appreciate him for bringing you to a new day. Only those who seek Him will find him. The Psalmist says in Psalms 5:3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
When you make God your priority in the morning before anything, He will direct your path on that day, He will fill your heart with Joy. He will take away fear from your heart and keep you away from evil tiding that might arise on that day, He will also keep you in perfect peace. His joy will be your strength. Please note again that whatever you submit your attention to first in the morning determines the order of that day. Devil is wise and ensures that children of God don’t commune with their Father first thing in the morning, therefore he brings all manner of distractions, that is why some people experience avoidable disappointments. I beseech you by the mercies of God, to make God your priority first thing in the morning.
Parents should please pray with their family each morning, also teach their children to pray and read the word of God first thing in the morning. My parents brought me up strictly this way, and it became easy for me to bring up my children same way.
I pray for you that the evil which moves around in the day will not reach you in Jesus name, the covenant of God in Psalm 91 will prevail for you and your family in Jesus name.
I love the way David said it in Psalms 143:8 “Cause me to hear thy loving kindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.” If you have not been doing this before or stopped, I want you to ask God to forgive you today, go back to Him daily. I decree that the protection of God upon you and your family will not be removed IJN, as you make Him your priority early in the morning, may God shower upon you dews of heaven in Jesus name.
Prayer: O Lord, be my guide and direction as i seek you daily.
Key Dose: God draw near to those that draws near unto him.
