Memorize: Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth Philippians 2:9&10
Devotional Reading: Philippians 2:1-11
Historically, both biblically and in current times, names are very important. Most parents and guidance don’t just give name to a child, careful considerations are made, thoughts are processed before naming a child because that name will affect the life and future of that child, it may also affect the family. I have few friends who have changed their names after they met with the Lord and gave their lives to Christ.
Some people in bible times also changed their names. In Genesis 17:16; Abram was renamed Abraham; in Genesis 32:28; Jacob was renamed Israel. There are some reasons why names are very important in the bible:
1, A biblical name could record some aspects of a person’s birth
2, Biblical name sometimes expresses the parent’s reaction to the birth of their child
3, Biblical names could be used to communicate God’s message
4, Biblical names are given to establish authority over another; it could be to indicate a new beginning or new direction in a person’s life.
In today’s devotional, we are looking at the name Jesus, the name that is above every other name, this name is not an ordinary name. The name means ‘Saviour’ Matthew 1:21; And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
The name Jesus was given as a sign of deliverance from sin and its consequences, without the intervention of Jesus, the whole earth will perish without recovery. The name Jesus was also given for preservation or deliverance from harm, ruin or loss. Few years ago, I was driving from Ogun state to Lagos in Nigeria, the tyre of the car I was driving suddenly burst at high speed on a major high way, I began to lose control of the vehicle, I shouted the name JESUS, JESUS, the name worked for me, the power of God controlled the vehicle and prevented it from crashing into nearby valley.
The name of Jesus gives us identity as Christians – Acts 11:26.
The name of Jesus is above every other name – Philippians 2:9-11;
Only through the name of Jesus that we can recieve from God – John 6:23&24
The entirety of who Jesus is and what he can do is in his name – Mark 16:17&18;
The name of Jesus works 24/7 without stopping “Revelation 1:18; I am he that liveth, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, Amen, and have the keys of hell and death.
The devil trembles and is sore afraid at the mention of the name JESUS, Matthew 8:29.
The name Jesus is a strong tower of safety and protection for the righteous – Proverbs 18:10
The name Jesus produce instant miracle – Acts 9:34
If you have not given your life to Christ; do so today so that you can enjoy the blessings in the name that is above all other names, that name is called Jesus. Confess your sin’s; forsake them and ask for mercy, you will be forgiven, your name will be written in the lamb’s book of life and you will enjoy the benefits of becoming a child of God, may the LORD bless you and keep you in Jesus name.
Remember to call on the name JESUS whenever you are in danger, it will work for you. Stay close to Jesus!
Prayer point: Father, give me the grace to be identified with you and enjoy all the benefits that are in your name.
Key Dose: Jesus is the ONLY way, the truth and the life.
