Devotional Reading: 2 Corinthians. 10:1-7
For three days now, we have been looking at different weapons that we can use for spiritual warfare. We have looked at weapons of Prayer, Faith and Holiness, today, we will be looking at the name Jesus. I pray that the LORD will give you the understanding you need to appreciate and use these weapons
As we come to the middle of the year 2021, let us look back at all the goodness of God over us for which we must be grateful. Bless His name, praise Him, be thankful. Remember the popular Hymn, great is thy faithfulness, O Lord my father, may the LORD give you a grateful & thankful heart in Jesus name
The weapon of spiritual warfare that we we are looking at today, is the most powerful name in the universe, the name Jesus. The name ‘Jesus’ is not an ordinary name, it is the only name that carries the greatest power and authority in all the universe, both in heaven above, on earth and underneath the earth. Demons tremble at the mention of the name Jesus. Witches and wizards take their flight in confusion at the mention of the name Jesus. There is no other name in the entire universe that carries higher power and authority other than the name – ‘Jesus’ – Philippians 2:9&10.
The name Jesus is a strong tower according to Proverbs 18:10. Joel 2:32; And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD, shall be delivered. Romans 10:13; For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. From the bible references above, there is a part that we must play, we must take action, either to run unto that name or to call on the name.
Some people have neglected their part expecting God to fulfil his part and do it all for them. Our God is a covenant keeping God, He is also God of principle. He only acts when we call upon Him.
There is help for you in whatever difficult situation you may find yourelf, call on the name Jesus, that name will answer for you. The next time the devil try to harass you, don’t negotiate with him, act in faith, run to the name Jesus which is a strong tower; He will never fail you.
The name of Jesus is a weapon against sickness – Acts 3:6. The name of Jesus is a weapon against poverty – 2 Corinthians 8:9. The name of Jesus is a weapon against fear and anxiety – 1 Peter 5:7. The name of Jesus is a weapon against oppression from the enemy – Romans 10:13.
Having understood the enormous power in the name Jesus, can anybody just call on that name and use it? The answer is NO, not just anyone can use the name “Jesus” to perform miracle, only those who are born again, whose sins have been forgiven. The name of Jesus becomes a strong tower to the righteous – Proverbs 18:10.
In Acts 19:11-20; after the seven sons of Sceva saw how God worked special miracles by the hand of Paul in the name of Jesus, they too wanted to perform similar miracle in the name of Jesus, the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, Paul I know; but who are you? Vs 16; And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
If you have not given your life to Christ, then do so today so that you too can start enjoying the full benefits and blessings in calling the name of Jesus.
I pray that the name of Jesus will avail and deliver you from every unpleasant and challenging situations of life. You will not be overpowered by the storms of life and attack of the enemy in Jesus mighty name.
Prayer point: Jesus, please let your name avail for me and defend me.
