MAKING GODLY CHOICES

Memorize: There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death; Proverbs 14:12.

Devotional Reading: Proverbs 14:1-12

One basic and essential thing that we all do in our everyday lives is making choices. We choose the time to sleep, time to wake up, food to eat, the cloth to wear, the course to study, job to do, who to marry, e.t.c… Each choices that we make, has consequences, therefore, it is imperative for us to make right decisions and Godly choices. The life that many of us live today are the consequences of the choices of the generations before us, the consequences of the choices of our former leaders, or the consequences of our own past choices. The importance of making Godly choice is very crucial because it may not just affect us, it may affect other people around us which may have far reaching consequences

According to our Memorize, it is not every way before us that seems good that are actually good, some ways may seem good in our eyes which may lead to danger or death.

This is the reason why it is important for us to pray and seek the face of God before making our choices, the Holy Spirit knows what is good and best for us, consulting Him before we make our choices will be wise.

There are at least 2 paths before man according to the word of God through Moses.

Deuteronomy 30:19; I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live. Moses gave this advice as commanded by God, to the children of Israel. One would have expected that with such an opportunity, they would choose life. Unfortunately, many of them chose the wrong path through disobedience, which led to the death and destruction of a large number of them. Many people are doing the same today, with all the encouragement from God through His holy word, through our Godly parents, through our pastors and ministers through heaven inspired sermons, teachings, Bible Study messages and daily devotionals, many still choose the “wrong path”

Some of the reasons why many make ungodly choices is because they do not acknowledge or commit their ways into the hands of God, Proverbs 3:6; In all thy ways, acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

As important and crucial it is that we make Godly choices, many people fail due to carelessness; prayer lessness and vain attractions. They feel attracted to the way that seemeth good to the eye. This was the case with Lot in Genesis 13 when he was going to separate with Abram.

Abram gave Lot the opportunity to choose the land first, Lot did not consult God, he did not consider Abram, he chose all the plain of Jordan out of selfishness, the best land in the eyes of man, and left the poor one for Abram. It did not end well with Lot in the path he chose, he was invaded and held captive with his family, resulting in Abram having to rescue him. The city was eventually destroyed and burnt by fire, the consequence of choosing the wrong path.

Jesus made the right decision and chose Godly path when he was here on earth.
The right and Godly path that Jesus took brought salvation unto all mankind.

We too need to make right and godly choices so that we and others around us can also be blessed; but we cannot do it on our own, we need God to help us.

“‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways … For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts … so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:8-11.

Whatever your situation, remember to consult God before making those choices or decisions, ask Him to chose for you, depend upon His Word, confident that His ways are higher than your ways.

May the LORD help and guide you into making right and Godly choices in Jesus name.

Prayer point: O LORD, please help me make right decisions and Godly choices in Jesus name.

Key Dose: The decisions and choices we make today, can affect both us and generations to come.
