WAGES OF SIN

Memorize : Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the Lord saith, be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed. 1 Samuel. 2:3

Devotional Reading: Exodus 33:1-23

The almighty God is a loving, kind and compassionate father, he is not interested in the death of any sinner, but that a sinner would repent and be saved, Ezekiel 18:23; This nature is completely different from the nature of man, the nature of man is to seek revenge but our God seek opportunity to forgive a sinner. However,
there are some things that doesn’t change about God, an example is the wages of sin for unrepentant sinners. Our God is God of mercy and God of judgement for those who refuse to repent. With God, Sin is sin regardless of the magnitude or who committed it, where or when it was committed.

There was a story of 2 sons in 1 Samuel.2:12-36, who with their father Eli were given a special privilege to assist the people who came to Shiloh to offer sacrifices to God. He allowed them to have certain parts of the sacrifices, yet they were not contentes with it. Eli’s sons forced the people to give them what they wanted each time they came to offer sacrifices, they also had immoral dealings with the women who assemble there. Samuel never associated himself with Eli’s sons in their evil acts, and God was pleased with him. But He was not pleased with Eli’s sons because of their sin.

Eli merely warned his sons that God was not pleased and would deal with them, but they did not repent. God in Deuteronomy. 21:18-21, had instructed that a father must discipline his children if they refuse to repent, the leaders of the town should judge them, God put in place that injunction because He wanted evil to be completely removed from among His people. Eli who knew the laws of God and the character of his sons, ought to have stopped them from performing any duty in God’s house, yet he allowed them to continue for reasons best known to him. When God had seen enough, He allowed judgement to fall on Eli’s two sons, they were killed in a day because they refused to repent.

The wages of sin is death to every sinner that refuse to repent. God does not have interest in the death of any sinner but for the sinner should come to repentance, and be saved. He loves you and cares for you. Life is beautiful when lived inside Christ, you therefore need to turn away from everything called sin: lying, fornication, smoking, pornography, adultery, backbiting, drug or alcohol addiction, and stealing amongst others etc. God is our father, he loves us His children, he has inspired me to share this Devotional with you because He does not want anyone to die in their sin. Remember you can’t take God for granted, for He is not a respecter of anyone.

But God is gracious and merciful, full of compassion, He will forgive you your sins if you confess, repent and turn away from your sins.

My mummy’s, daddy’s, brother’s, sister’s, sons’ and daughters in the Lord, repent from your sins today, because the wages of sin is death. I pray that death will not catch up with you in your sins in Jesus name.

Prayer point: O LORD, please deliver me from sin and its judgement in Jesus name.

Key Does: Punishment is justice for the unjust who is unrepentant.
