A FEARFUL AND DEPENDABLE GOD

Memorise: “The LORD is slow to anger and great in power and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet” Nahum 1:3.

Devotional Reading: Nahum 1:2-15

The prophet Nahum pictured God as the creative force behind the cataclysmic events of nature. The whirlwinds and storms. The quaking of mountains and turbulent seas. The sheer power of nature can be frightening, and cause panic and uncertainty, this is the fearful part of God particularly for those who do not know Him.

But Nahum saw another perspective. He knew that everything changes when we really know God. When we have a personal relationship with Him. We can call on Him in any situation, and trust Him to take care of us, even in the midst of violent storms.

God is reliable and dependable to those who know him, according to the book of Isaiah 43:1&2; But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for i have redeemed thee, i have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, i will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

With this personal relationship and assurance from God, we know that He “is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, our sure defence, protector and shield.” We can “take refuge in Him.”

All of us will go through various storms. Some can be turbulent, and might cause us to quake and tremble. We might experience heartaches and uncertainty.

But the Bible tells us that God wants us to trust in Him in the midst of every storm, he promised to be present with us, He is our shield, our rock of salvation; his presence is with us at all times especially in times of trouble as he was present with the three Hebrew chidren while in fire – Daniel 3:26-30, our God is reliable and dependable.

But those who do not know Him may be defeated in the storm and experience the “overwhelming floods” of life. They don’t have the same peace and confidence, they have no anchor that can hold.

Whatever you may be going through today, don’t give in to fear or panic. Be strong, know that you have an anchor in Christ that hold. Call on God. Trust Him. Make Him your refuge. Rest on Him. Let Him fill you with peace. Those who know their God will be strong and do great exploit.

I pray for you today in the name of Jesus, that your faith will not fail in the day of adversity, and that you will put your trust wholly on our reliable and dependable God who cannot fail. He has never failed in the past, and he cannot fail now, he will not fail you in Jesus name.

Prayer point: Our mighty and dependable God, please help me trust you in all my situations in Jesus name.

Key Dose: God is a sure and dependable ROCK to those who trust in him.
